So because the title isn’t confirmed I can’t move ahead with a cover, and because I don’t have a cover I can’t start preparing marketing materials, and meanwhile all this is taking me away from what I really need to be doing which is continue to improve the manuscript.
So being just enough artist to get myself in trouble I took the title that some have commented favorably on and the picture that was whirling around in my head and made the rudiments of a cover… check it out on the right.
Then I got so excited about it that I lost my head and put it on the website (like I said, there it is on the right) and on the synopsis that I’m sending out to some people.
But the hard fact is that the title isn’t confirmed yet so it’s damming up the flow of my progress. So I thought “maybe I’ll pay somebody to help me with the title” but I couldn’t find anybody I thought would actually invest the time necessary to understand the book. I asked the media kit folks and they kept saying get a writer’s group to critique the title.
So finally I thought “let’s see if we can find a writer’s group.” After a day of poking around and signing-up with several that don’t let you do a thing until you pay money, I found two and maybe three great writer’s blog sites where I have connected and look forward to lerning alot while also sharin the growing store of knowledge I’m acquiring on the topic of writing and self-publishing.
The following sites provide easy sign-up, an easy to use website, and an overwhelmingly FRIENDLY community of writers:
http://accentuatewriters.com -you might want to change the skin to something lighter, I found the dark default theme hard to read since I like to sit out in the sun on the roof of my house here in India.
http://bookblogs.ning.com – seems to have groups within the site to sign up with according to your interest or genre. Looks to be very informative and helpful!
Let’s see if some of these folks can help me break the title dam… and meanwhile maybe I can break a few writing dams for others.
